얕은 바람에 춤추는 천혜 비경. 황산에 대해 중국인들은 명나라때 지리학자 서하객의 입을 빌려 이렇게 극찬한다. 허풍이 다소 심한 중국인들이기는
하지만 누구도 황산이 중국에서 가장 아름다운 산이라는 것은 부인하기 어렵다.1990년에는 유네스코 세계자연유산으로 등록된 명산이다. 국내에서는
‘산이란 올라갈 땐 남이지만 내려올 땐 친구가 되는 곳’이라는 항공사 광고에 등장하면서 일반에 알려지기 시작했다. 그러나 국내에 알려진 것은
빙산의 일각. 오랜 공사끝에 지난 2001년에야 겨우 등산로가 완공돼 중국인들도 발을 들여 놓지 못했던 서해대협곡은 황산의 최고 절경이다.
태고의 비경을 간직한 깊은 협곡은 황산 안내지도에조차 등산로가 표시돼 있지 않은 처녀지다. 이때문에 황산을 보고 왔어도 서해대협곡을 돌아보지
않고는 황산을 다녀왔다고 감히 말할 수 없다. 이제 막 모습을 드러낸 서해대협곡의 비경을 안내한다.

Beauty The Yellow Mountains known as Yishan in the Qin
Dynasty (221 -207 B.C.) got their present name in 747 A.D. (the 6th year of the
Tianbao reign of the Tang Dynasty), when Li Bai (701 -762), the great Tang poet,
wrote about them in these lines:
Located in the
southern part of Anhui Province, the Yellow Mountains extend across - Shexian,
Yixian, Taiping and Xiuning. They rose above the earth surface as a result of
movement of the earth's crust over a hundred million years ago. Later they
underwent the erosion of Quaternary glaciation and have gradually become what
they are today. Magnificent and imposing, it is a famous scenic spot full of
wonderful sights.
Thousands of feet high towers the Yellow
Mountains
With its thirty-two magnificent peaks,
Blooming like golden
lotus flowers.
Amidst red crags and rock columns.
